In honor of the new year, a portrait of Voltaire, a very optimistic and enlightened fellow. Painted from a plaster sculpture hanging in my studio.

So you are also good at two-dimensionalizing sculpture–no easy trick! It is also interesting that optimistic and smart guys don’t necessarily smile a lot….
