Johann Gutenberg

Posted on | July 9, 2010 | 2 Comments

A calendar illustration done around 1982.  It depicts Johann Gutenberg, the inventor of the movable type printing press in 1439, at work in his print shop.

I took some liberty with the gold leaf.  The model was an old friend from NYC, Jim Spillane.

18″x18″ Acrylic on gessoed masonite.

    Gary,
Bravo! This thing looks so real that it’s surreal! Congrats. Tom
