Johann Gutenberg

Posted on | July 9, 2010 | 4 Comments

A calendar illustration done around 1982.  It depicts Johann Gutenberg, the inventor of the movable type printing press in 1439, at work in his print shop.

I took some liberty with the gold leaf.  The model was an old friend from NYC, Jim Spillane.

18″x18″ Acrylic on gessoed masonite.
