Two Poplars Against the Mountain

Posted on | May 30, 2014 | Comments Off on Two Poplars Against the Mountain

Just back from my incredible trip to the Provence area of France.  It was my retirement gift from Indigo Studios.  What a Gift!  A week painting with one of my favorite painters, Julian Merrow-Smith.  He puts on a workshop that could not be topped, by anyone!  Myself and nine other painters stayed at a restored 12th century  monastery, complete with gourmet meals.  Not all my paintings were keepers, as it was a workshop.  A few, however, I will show.  This one is from day 3.  Oil on 8″ x 10″ gessoed panel.day3_sm

Bud McGee’s Field

Posted on | April 29, 2014 | Comments Off on Bud McGee’s Field

While driving from Atlanta to Louisiana, I left the highway at Forest, Mississippi to search for a subject to paint.  Finally, I spotted this gorgeous field full of small yellow flowers.  Little did I know, that the local dairy farmers had a different opinion of these little beauties.  The owner of the farm, Bud, and his grandson Matthew, let me know they didn’t think the yellow fields were pretty.  You’re not from around here are you, they asked?  “They’re weeds and I hate em”, said Bud.  The little yellow flowers are full of sulphur and the cows won’t stick their noses in them to get to the grass below.  As I painted they were spraying and cutting and anything else possible to kill the weeds.  I painted fast because if Bud had his way they would be gone the next day.  That is until they came back next year, of which I was assured by Bud, they surely would.  Oil on 9″ x 12″ linen panel.  “Available”
